Momentum Arts and Social Engagement and Intercultural Learning

We are learning all the time, gaining more in-depth experience in social engagement. We are also collaborating on more pan-European and international creative projects.

Our current projects in this area are:

Ariadne - Art and Cultural Adaptation

A quick summary.

Momentum Arts is expanding its horizons through engaging with international perspectives on the vital role creative arts play in increasing cultural dialogue. This strengthens our consultation of people and communities, ensuing that all needs are represented in our project development.

A little more detail.

We evaluate and disseminate what we learn amongst our peers. As well as championing the rights of diverse and disadvantaged groups, we aim to contribute to best practice development. We are currently forging relationships with European partners to further research the value of the creative arts in increasing cultural understanding. Within our work with European partners as part of the Ariadne project, we are investigating the role of the creative arts with regards to the cultural adaptation of migrants new to the UK.  We hope to provide insightful learnings which, together with the work of our European partners, will form a body of evidence we can share.

Some specific examples of our commitment to social engagement and intercultural learning.

Momentum Arts’ commitment to evaluating projects quantitatively and qualitatively is pivotal in the design of our future projects. However, our work is also about providing project participants and our peers with opportunities to engage with new perspectives. We hope that our growing international network and ongoing dissemination will feed into the development of universal models of good practice. For example, some of our findings are about the individual’s experiences and how the creative arts informs their cultural understanding. The benefits of this are manifold; engagement in this intercultural work benefits both the individual and communities alike, by breaking down language barriers and contributing to community cohesion. We hope that these findings will be utilised and expanded upon internationally.

Our publications are designed to be used as guidance to others working in our field, to enliven and inform their participatory work. Our Turning the Tide: Designing and Managing a Participatory Arts Regeneration Project publication shared all the learnings from Being Here, a three year arts and inclusion programme.

“An excellent resource, ready to be taken off the shelf and used to guide and inspire other great projects.”
Mary Sanders MBE, Vice Chair of COVER (Community and Voluntary Forum: Eastern Region).
