Team East for Skills was a 3 year project enabling 1,300 out of work adults (16+), whether registered as unemployed or not, to develop skills and confidence to move into volunteering activities, further learning or work. During this time, Momentum Arts worked with over 500 participants. There were opportunities to take part in sports or arts-themed activities and to receive valuable guidance from an experienced and friendly team in order to move closer to the job market. Progression Coaches were also available to provide one-to-one support and advice throughout the participants journey on the programme.

Team East for Skills is funded by the Legacy Trust and ESF (European Social Fund) and managed by COVER (Community and Voluntary Forum East of England).

The programme was designed after the highly successful Personal Best programme in London which aimed to connect with and engage unemployed people living in the vicinity of the 2012 Olympic stadium in order to help them into work or volunteering opportunities. The Olympics will need an estimated 70, 000 volunteers and each participant on the Personal Best programme was given a chance to interview for a role as volunteer for the games.

The activities available on the Team East for Skills Programme fell into three categories:

Warm-ups

Momentum Arts have delivered Warm Up sessions in Cambridge, Wisbech, Bedford, Ely, Luton, St Neots and Peterborough. The sessions concentrated on activity designed to engage and motivate people in a fun and informal way. The initial referral process and welcome phone call aimed to establish the participant's interests and experience prior to the workshop. The workshops comprised of arts or sports activities but you didn't need to be experienced in arts or sport in order to benefit. The Warm Ups were also the time when participants filled out their Learning Plan in order to establish want they wanted from the programme be it progression coaching, training or other further engagement.

Bronze Level

Following completion of the two day Warm Up, participants had the opportunity to attend a training course – this could be anything within their allocated budget but often comprised of a short course such as one of the Princes Trust ‘Get Into’ courses. Again, these course are free for the participant to attend.

Progression Coaching

Each participant had the opportunity to be matched with a Progression Coach who was able to guide and advise the participant throughout their journey on the programme.
