Street Child World Cup
“No child should have to live on the streets - I commend the Street Child World Cup for providing a platform for the rights of street children to be heard" Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP, Prime Minister
The first ever Street Child World Cup will take place between 10th and 21st of March in
Durban, South Africa. Street children from eight countries will come together to play football and find their voices through the game they love.
The tournament will be the centrepiece of a conference designed to bring people from all over the world to listen to the street children. Their voices will be heard by businesses, governments, and members of the public, and they will lead the creation of a Street Child Manifesto, launching a campaign calling for their rights to be respected.
At Momentum Arts, we are organising one particular aspect of the Street Child World Cup; an arts programme that will enable street children to tell their stories through art, sculpture and drama, and bring these stories to a global audience. During the Street Childs World Cup, an international team of artists will work with the children to create a unique platform for self-expression. They will create theatre, art and interactive installations to be exhibited in
Durban
Art
Gallery from 21st March 2010 until July 2010. The exhibition will then tour in the UK.
